Samsung Galaxy Note 5 : Unleash the Powerhouse.

hqdefault.jpg
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 : Unleash the Powerhouse.

We are nearing  the end of 2016 and you're probably wondering why Note 5. Well ,in light of Samsung's latest Note 7 fiasco, the Note 7 line is now officially dead costing Samsung about $ 17 billion in refund suit soon to follow. That leaves us with Note 5 , still the latest and greatest note line from Samsung.About a year after its initial release ,how much does this device live up to in today's standards ? Well let's find out .

Design and form factors

The most important fact about the design is that it’s nothing over the moon. Everything seems to be a mix-up of what the note series and the flagship S series together has to offer. Perhaps the most significant move to the S series design is the front and back glass panels.Just like the S6, the front and back glass gets bounded by a metal frame which feels great in hand .And the subtle inclusion of translucent effect on the glass makes it shine and reflect, literally! .
1.jpg
                                                                                                            source:www.droid-life.com
The usage of glass panels means the device is a fingerprint magnet .This is another big shout out to  S6 .but some subtle curves and chamfered edges boldly differentiates it from S6 and adds to easy handling of the device .
4.jpg
source:optus.com.au
Every other components of the design are exactly there where they should be .The home button ,volume rockers are exactly where they  were in the previous models .Perhaps a new addition is the fingerprint scanner which is now embedded into the tactile home button.this makes it a lot more user friendly compared to the swipe gesture that prevailed in its predecessor. At the bottom part ,we have microUSB port ,headphone jack (pretty useful) ,the speaker grill ,the S pen, all aligned .
The S pen looks much sleeker now and you can almost get a pencil like vibe from it . A fun new addition is that the top of the pen is now actually tactile, which many people might enjoy playing with .
A place of concern in an otherwise perfect design is the lack of removable back cover, which means no removable battery, and exclusion of external storage.  Absence of both this feature , considered as a holy grail by some, is a major let down for Android power users .

Display

2.jpg                                                     source:androidauthority.com

Samsung is famous for its legendary Quad HD Super AMOLED display, which are undoubtedly the best display you can get . The note 5 boasts this AMOLED panel .Now the display may seem as same as the previous note , but and enhanced and incremented viewing angles adds to an already great display .Quad HD seems to be the solution for larger display as the note 5 packs an excellent pixel density of 518 ppi .
note5-screen.jpg

6.jpg
source: androidauthority.com
The thin bezels really helps the display to bloom in all its glory .Games and movies in this phone, which is primarily designed for texting and writing , is an absolute joy .
Hardware
There isn't any new inclusions that we haven't already seen in previous notes and phones .The device packs standard suite of connectivity .NFC is there which is intended to be used for Samsung pay . The placement of the single grilled audio port benefits this time around. Sounds are sharp  and loud ,as usual as you'd expect from a Samsung
specs-of-both.jpg

5.jpg
source:androidcentral.com
The addition of the fingerprint sensor was a step into the future back when the note 5 first launched. Though it's initial usage was limited only to unlock the device ,it has now become a major component of an ever growing Samsung Pay ecosystem.
Storage options in note 5 is limited to 32 GB or 64 GB version. Without any possibility of an expandable storage ,power users are forced to go for the 64 GB variant which comes with added premiums . The storage in galaxy note 5 is UFS 2.0 . Samsung claims that this standard can rival the SSD and it helps to maximize the speed. This ensures a smooth performance of the device owing to the highly optimized internals

Software

It can now be safely said that after ages, Samsung has finally listened to its users, the bogged down Samsung's OS is now gone ,leaving a much more streamlined os that's on par with stock Android ,all the while keeping its useful features .Plenty of features es can now be found with a little bit of digging ,like triggering the one handed feature by hitting the home button three times or easy access to multi window from recent apps screen . The amount of tutorials that follows this skin is far less ,that's probably the most significant thing about this version of touch wiz.
Options like Smart Select ,Screen write, and memo creation has been created to nicely complement the S pen . In addition to these features ,the S pen now can be used like a mouse, whose best use can be seen while scrolling through text .
Samsung_Galaxy_Note_5_11.jpg
An interesting new feature is the off screen memo taker . Now removing the S pen no longer wakes up the device ,but rather opens up offscreen memo interface ,which means you can take a memo without waking up your device ,for anyone in need to quickly jot down infos . Seems like a pretty neat idea ! source : engadget.com
Taking the S-Pen out in any other situation, or pressing the button on it, opens up the refreshed Air Command menu, which now also includes a few shortcuts to user-defined applications, though it does feel weird to put anything

on this list that doesn’t ultimately take advantage of the stylus. The Action Memo is still able to read handwriting and insert it into a number of different applications, though the feature mainly remains a way of quickly adding to S-Note. In S-Note, every note can be easily pinned to the homescreen, as well as turned into a reminder; both of these features are practical and make the Screen-Off Memo that much more appealing to use regularly.
Smart Select is also back with all its glory ,making it easier as ever to cut a portion and sharing the screen . Screen Write is also another great option ,it lets you take a screenshot of the current work area and edit it to your liking .
8.jpg
source: techradar.com
The most appealing thing about the S pen now is probably that now it feels a bit more essential than before .and this was achieved by not over saturating it with buttons and tutorials . Sure the list of its usage are not long as it used to be ,but the existing ones are pretty solid .

Performance

Performance is a high point for the galaxy note 5 .the octa core Exynos 7420 processor clocked at 2.1 GHz backed up by 4 GB of RAM ensures the swiftest of performance in this toned down version of touch wiz .
9.PNG
source : wccftech.com
Antutu benchmark puts it at 66521 and geek bench score puts it at 4787 at multicore and 1467 at single core .note that higher is better .
7.jpg
source: anddoidpit.com
The Note 5 seems to do well ahead of recently released oneplus 2 and Nexus 6.
The galaxy note 5 succeeds where the note line has always excelled - being the fastest and best iteration of the galaxy experience in a given year .

Camera

Quite literally, the note 5 retains its camera quality from its predecessor. It houses a 16 MP rear shooter with a f/1.9 aperture and 4k video recording capabilities, along with a wide angled  5 mp lens in front .
All the usual modes are present ,from slow motion to a new video collage mode . Shooting in the stock camera app is nice and quick in most situations, though it can be a bummer sometimes ,u also get a slider for changing the exposure in bright and low light conditions.
Picture quality is trademark note like .Continuing to live upto the expectation from Samsung. Good saturation makes sure the picture never gets dull ,and a fine amount of details can be captured as well .f/1.9 aperture is a bliss for depth of field effect ,in addition ,it helps out a lot in low light conditions .Although in low light ,a noticeable amount of noise is present due to higher ISO compensation. Some samples taken in low and high exposure are included below
3.jpg

Battery

The galaxy note 5 packs a 3000mah unit ,this might seem pretty small ,but it tends to last a full days of usage due to its highly optimized internals .screen on time won't get you beyond 4.5 hrs, but the standby time on this device is great .if you minimally use it ,you can easily get a full day out of it .
The small battery size only reflects Samsung's ever increasing tendency to make their device thinner . But the positive thing is that ,they tried to backup this hard hit battery with fast charge option . It's nice that Samsung supports PMA and Qi fast charging standards out of the box . This goes a long way to say that samsung is committed to keep you powered up even in intense situation
d.PNG
source :wccftech.com
The fast charge capability will be useful for everyone,as it can get back a decent amount of battery life in about 10-15 minutes of charging ,an hour of charging will give you a full battery.Battery benchmark shows that it did significantly well compared to note 4 or galaxy s6 edge.

Final Thoughts

There you have it ,an in depth review of the galaxy note 5 . Note 5 boasts the best of yesterday, which still may be appealing for some .In addition to a great camera it boasts a stellar display from s6 and makes it even better on a 5.7 inch screen . It's hard to suggest this phones in lights of galaxy s7 or Google pixel .But even to this day, galaxy note 5 is a complete phablet package.

– Individual paying for other members of the group
– Accounting for money collected in advance from group members
– Recording of an expense which is not shared equally within the group
Default assumption is that all participants, irrespective of their contributions, need to pay equally for the group event. This can be changed by specifying each participant’s due on per expense basis.
Fantastic ∗∗∗∗∗ (5 Stars) by MiguelKR (Portugal App Store)
It is a fantastic app, very useful that allows you to track your expenses when travelling in groups! Strongly recommend!
Good app! ∗∗∗∗∗ (5 Stars) by Antsaf – (UK App Store)
It does what I needed. Fantastic for travelling with friends.
Following are some of the situations where this app can be used:
• Track shared expenses between friends when on an outing or trip together
• Tracking expenses for co-hosted/joint party with friends
• Track common expenses with a room-mates
• Situations where expenses are shared between multiple parties
• Record your personal expenses
Key Features:
• Record individual but shared expenses made by participants within an event (“Individual – Shared”)
• Create a “Money Pool” in advance (if needed)
• Create money pool entries with equal or unequal amount from participants
• Specify different dues from each participant on per expense basis
• Combine both “Individual – Shared” and “Money Pool” expenses in a single event for extra flexibility
• Generate a report detailing the transactions needed to even out the contribution of each participant towards an event
• Generate a detailed email report with email addresses (if available) of the participants auto populated
• Create a contact within the app by entering details manually or picking contact information from the iOS address book
• View a report detailing each participant’s contribution at any time during the event, which helps to understand the disparity (if any) in contributions
• Duplicate easily, an existing event without its expenses. Useful when starting a new event with same set of participants or when a participant joins or leaves an event
Expense Type “Individual – Shared”:
Participants can make independent payments on behalf of other group members and the app supports recording of such expenses. This type of expense is called “Individual – Shared” expense and is the default method of recording an expense.
Expense Type “Money Pool”:
Participants have the option of creating a “Money pool” by collecting money in advance from each participant at the beginning or during the course of an event but before expenses are made. The expenses thereafter can be made purely out of the money collected in advance. You also have the option of collecting unequal amounts from different participants towards the money pool and the difference will be accounted for, in the final report. This gives flexibility while taking contributions.
Mixed Expense Event:
Once an advance money pool is created, you have both the options available while adding an expense entry i.e. “From Money Pool” and “Individual – Shared”. Henceforth you can add an expense using either of the two methods.
If you are looking for an easy to use, well designed and flexible expense sharing app then look no further. Your search ends here.

Galaxy S7 edge will be a dream phone for Android fans

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Specs Features Leaks
Even though last year’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge were incredible phones, they nonetheless failed to reverse the overall decline in Samsung’s smartphone sales. What’s more, some Android users were annoyed that Samsung took away features like support for microSD cards that had been staples of its previous flagship devices.
If the recent leaks about the Galaxy S7 edge’s specs and features are right, however, then it seems that Samsung will have delivered a dream device for Android fans.

Let’s start with the battery life. A recently unearthed FCC filing confirms that the Galaxy S7 edge will have a 3,600mAh battery that will not only be larger than the battery in last year’s Galaxy Note 5 but also bigger than the battery found in last year’s acclaimed Nexus 6P. While big battery size doesn’t equate necessarily to longer battery life, it’s nonetheless a good bet that the Galaxy S7 edge will set the standard for Android phones in terms of battery life this year.
Second, assorted leaks have claimed that Samsung will be bringing back support for microSD cards in its flagship devices this year, which will once again give users the ability to upgrade the storage on their phones. Although the lack of microSD card support probably didn’t hurt Galaxy S6 sales to a significant extent last year, bringing it back certainly can’t hurt.
Other reported specs for the device include either a Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 processor, as well 4GB of RAM and a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera. There might be some griping about the camera having a lower megapixel count compared to last year’s phones but honestly a 12-megapixel camera is perfectly adequate for most smartphone photographers, especially since Samsung has in the past shown it can deliver first-rate cameras on its devices.
In short, it sounds like Samsung has done a lot of work addressing the weaknesses of last year’s models without compromising on their strengths. We still don’t officially know the device’s full features yet but the early leaks all indicate the Galaxy S7 edge will be the phone to beat in 2016.

Lenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-on

Lenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-on

Lenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-on

Back in September of 2015, Lenovo announced an affordable, selfie-centric smartphone called the Lenovo VIBE S1. It featured pretty good midrange hardware and a dual front camera setup for some bokeh effects, all for the reasonable price of $299. Now, the company has announced a more affordable variant of the handset, called the VIBE S1 Lite. Here at CES 2016, we’ve had a closer look at the device.

Lenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-on
Lenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-onLenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-on
Lenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-on

Design

The first thing we notice in the Lite model is that the curved glass rear has been replaced by a matte-finished plastic cover. That aside, the design language of the VIBE S1 can certainly be seen here, as the phone still has the metal frame around its sides, and retains an elegant look and light weight. The back is still curved, providing nice ergonomics for an already comfortable to hold smartphone.
Lenovo VIBE S1 Lite: hands-on

Display

Just like its bigger sibling, the VIBE S1 Lite has a 5-inch display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. This results in a pixel density of 441 PPI, giving us a crisp, detailed image. It’s a pretty bright IPS panel, with rich and a bit oversaturated colors, while its viewing angles are slightly harsh.

Interface

The VIBE S1 Lite runs Lenovo’s proprietary interface on top of Android 5 Lollipop. It’s generally a light re-skin, with the app drawer completely removed for one reason or another, and a number of experience-enhancing features added either as separate settings or security apps. The interface favors flat and colorful icon design, while its notifications shade and various menus do not stray far from the stock Android look.

Processor and memory

Under its hood, this selfie-centric handset has a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6753 SoC, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD of up to 128 GB. In our short time with the phone, we didn’t notice any stuttering or performance issues. Lenovo’s interface takes it easy on the hardware, and MediaTek’s processor has no issue running whatever we had on screen.

Of course, we would imagine that graphics intensive applications would take their toll on the phone’s performance, but we hadn’t had a chance to test that yet.

Camera

The front camera is where Lenovo put a large emphasis with the VIBE S1 Lite. Unlike its sibling — the VIBE S1 — this handset doesn’t have a dual camera setup on the front. Instead, it has one 8 MP Sony-made sensor accompanied by a flash for those times you just have to take a shot of your mug, but it’s just too dark. Additionally, the phone has a selfie panorama function, which will either help with getting more people in a shot, or get a larger shot of the scenery behind you, should there be such.

The backside camera sports a 13 MP sensor assisted by a two-tone CCT (Color Correlated Temperature) flash, which we’ve seen on the Motorola Moto X and Moto Play before.

Nokia N2: 6 inch display, 4GB RAM and 21MP Pureview

Nokia-N2-concept-1-490x392-horz

Nokia N2 – the next beast of Nokia rebirth

Nokia’s purchase of Alcatel Lucent has made all of us excited and may bring up many surprises. Designer David Quijada predicts that the giant will produce a new era with brand new products we never seen before. One of those include the one we are talking about: Nokia N2 with a bold impressive appearance and awesome specs. This Nokia N2 has all the potential it takes to become the rebirth of Nokia in the smartphone market.
Looking at the image above, you can tell that it brings the impression of a big smartphone – at the size of around 6 inch display. In terms of Nokia N2 specs, we have a Snapdragon 810 CPU, and edge to edge screen with OLED panel and beautiful FHD resolution. Nokia N2 cameras will be what we all love: 21MP Pureview sensor on the back and 8MP selfie shooter on the front. Both come with LED flashes for better shots under low light conditions.
Nokia-N2-concept-2-490x392
Nokia N2 is designed to carry some special favorable features too. The phone will have 3D Touch, a huge 64GB internal storage, 4G LTE and NFC charge. We will have Cortana and an optic scanner on board. There is no information about the Nokia N2 RAM capability yet, but with other premium specs the phone already have, a 4GB RAM or bigger will make it an ideal device.

Nokia N2 – reasonable price for impressive specs

For now, please keep in mind that, Nokia N2 is still a render design by Designer David Quijada. But it has so much potential of reaching mass production when Nokia comes back in 2016, which is just a few month ahead of us. We hope that as Nokia already targeted some budget flagships like Nokia E1, this Nokia N2 will also have a very reasonable price tag, compared to what it has.
